Kingsfall is one of the most historically important cities in all of Keldemar. Having been the first true city state as they are known today, Kingsfall was little more than a fortified town on the edge of the Kelden Empire three centuries ago. That would all change when the occupants of the city, led by the heroine Cora Flamecutter, rose up against the ruling noble of the area. In the months that followed, the king who ruled the land as a vassal to the Empire dispatched several small armies to deal with what he saw as a small problem. When each force was cut to pieces in turn, he finally led an army of more than 1,000 troops to the city.
When he arrived, the king found that the gates were open and the city seemed deserted. As his army moved into the town in order to secure it, the gates were slammed shut beyond the royal procession and a small portion of the army. Armed peasants and warriors rushed from hiding and overwhelmed the king’s royal guard. Cora slew the king’s sword bearer in personal combat, folloed by the monarch himself. When the city gates opened and Cora emerged, covered from head to toe in blood and bearing the head of their king, the army buckled in panic and withdrew. A short time later, The city was granted its sovereignty by the emperor himself.
